What are the good or best towns close to Orlando?

Can you answer Nina's question about Orlando?:

I am relocating, but I prefer to commute to work and not live in Orlando or kissimee. Family oriented towns, Schools?
Thanks.

Waterford Lakes area is also a nice family town.

College Park or Winter Park

There is a private school in College Park…
Bishop Moore is the name (my mother and I went here)
and then I think there is one called lake Highland Prep School (my dad went here)
Also I have heard a bit about this school
Trinity Preparatory School

Certainly some valid suggestions, but also some extremely pricey ones.

Having lived here since 1972, it might very much depend on your budget, income, and any notion of commuting.

Celebration is way too much like STEPFORD, and Baldwin park IS in O town city limits.

College Park and Winter Park are decent, but cliquish, trendy, pricey, and not many pieces of Real estate are selling.

You state you wish to commute, does that mean you'll look for work in O town? or ?

Central Florida, in a general sense, is family oriented, and there are many decent school districts. Certainly there are high end Private schools as well.

Everything is convenient to everything else as long as you're OK with I - 4 and it's constant congestion, and or take any one of a half dozen beltways.

East and West of O town, are less desirable, and no offense to you or anyone, but all areas have the same levels of mixed ethnicities and Crime stats, as anywhere else in the country.

It is a tourism driven economy here, and subject to fluctuations in crowds that happen for various events, attractions, SUMMER, Winter Snow Birds, etc.

Without knowing at all what work you're involved in, or hope to be, Downtown Orlando is pretty much a 9 to 5 place, with Major Banks, etc, that make up the skyline. It shuts down at night other than for the various clubs.

Winter Park and parts of Colleg park are quaint, and walking around type towns in the business districts. Personally I'd shy away from Altamonte Springs or Casselberry, but beyond that Longwood has some decent areas North East of O town, with I-4 being the main commute artery.

You might want to look outside the city limits into the southeast area, Waterford Lakes, Eastwood, Stoneybrook, and Avalon Park are all nice family neighborhoods. Oviedo is also outside Orlando.

Traffic congestion is really bad here. You might want to reconsider how far you want to commute to a job and look somewhere close to where you plan to work.

College Park and Baldwin Park are both neighborhoods within the City of Orlando. They are both decent but pricey neighborhoods. I've lived 2 miles east of downtown Orlando since 1981 and love it. Look for neighborhoods named: Dover Shores, Colonialtown, Lake Como, or try looking in zip codes 32803 and 32806.

Other places to check out in Orange County (the County where Orlando is located) are Maitland, Ocoee, Winter Park, Gotha, and Apopka.

I lived in Altamonte Springs, which is in Seminole County, from 1967 to 1981. My parents still live there. The southeast area of Altamonte Springs is still nice and relatively affordable. Seminole County is just north of Orange County, and many people commute from Seminole County. Other towns in Seminole to check out: Oviedo (north side of town), Longwood, Lake Mary, and maybe Winter Springs or Sanford (depends on the neighborhood).

Another area to consider is Lake County, which is west of Orange and Seminole Counties: Look at Clermont and Leesburg.
