is it safe to travel to orlando florida alone?

Can you answer mcbryanjeff86's question about Orlando?:

I am going on a trip to orlando alone in jan 09 by myself
and planning on staying about 2 weeks on a resort in disneyworld.
I am also going to check out universal studios and sea world
and try to make it to a few malls.
Is it a good idea to be travelling to florida alone?

Disney is a very safe place all around, and it can be an advantage because you can get in the single rider lines (much, much faster).

Orlando has had some bad press about an increase in crime, but Disney World is like a city unto it's self and does not have the crime rate as the rest of Orange county. The areas to be cautious in are the I-Drive area and venturing out in the Downtown area. I would stay away from Orange Blossom Trail area as well.
Just don't let your guard down while on vacation: keep hotel doors locked, don't go to ATMs at night, don't walk about on
I-Drive at night alone, don't carry too many packages to your car and so fourth.
I suggest you read our local newspaper, The Orlando Sentinel
and get a feel for the city. You can make yourself a knowledgeable visitor by knowing the lay of the land and what areas to avoid and when.
Orlando was named as the third cleanest city in the US by Forbes magazine (source: Forbes, America's Cleanest Cities 3/17/2008), but also had a record murder rate last year. A city of contrasts indeed.
Bottom line, Orlando is the City Beautiful, but one should not let their guard down, especially if here alone. Learn about the city, enjoy the parks and be-careful on I-4 and I-Drive.

I wouldn't even if you're an adult. Ask a friend to go with you or cut your stay in half and take precautions.

If you stay in the tourist areas you're good. Don't go to OBT (Orange Blossom Trail) unless you want a hooker or to get shot.

You should feel safe especially staying at Disney. It isn't as hard to get around as some seem to think. Ofcourse don't put yourself in dangerous situations - example: party get drunk at Pleasure Island and then take a stranger back to your hotel room or something (yes it has happened and yes results were not good) but seriously no matter where you go in the world, be aware of your surroundings!
