What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in Orlando, Florida?

Can you answer Mr. Knowledgeable VI's question about Orlando?:

I am considering relocating to Orlando, Florida after the year 2010. If I do decide to relocate to Orlando, I will be living on my own and most likely not being married. I will also have no family and/or friends around the area.

My question is; What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in Orlando, Florida?

Have you claimed your Genesis site?

i live in central fl, 40 miles from Orlando…It's the same as anywhere else..not knowing what your occupation is, I cant tell you the openings here, but there is always 2-3 pages of jobs in the paper…cost of living is high…rent or buying is high…weather is good all yr round, traffic is horrible, but there is NO snow, ice, sleet…..

You're planning way too far ahead. In 4 years you won't even remember wanting to live in Orlando. By the way, it's boring, too hot, getting more and more expensive, not the best job market, and landlocked (ok the nearest beach is an hour, but still, not close enough) Just wait until you see where your life takes you and try to travel as much as possible in the next few years. Try going to NYC, Boston, Miami, LA and even some smaller cities, then you'll get a better picture of what life is like in all different parts of the country. Orlando is a pretty boring option if you ask me.

The biggest advantage would be location. You would be close to beaches, shopping, airports, attractions.

The down falls would be the people. Even though this area should be great. Many tourists - rushing not sure where to go. There are traffic issues depending on what area you are looking to move. The crime rate is pretty high based on population. The majority of jobs available are low paying unless you are in a professional field.

I once considered moving to Orlando, FL. But I have grown up in Tampa, FL and am familiar with the Orlando area. I would say the disadvantages would be the roadways are constantly filled with tourists, and the city itself is targetted towards tourism. Theres also a university in Orlando so expect a somewhat college atmosphere. If you'd like beaches nearby…you're at an hour and a half drive to get to one.
The advantages would be there would always be something to do…with all the theme parks, and downtown disney and city walk of universal studios. Theres many restaurants. Ripleys believe it or not museum and many more fun things. Also you may meet some interesting people with the different tourists from all over who pass through. You're only about an hour at most from the east coast and a little more than that from Tampa, FL on the west coast.

Orlando rocks! I have lived here, Paris, and CT. Florida would have to be my fav. The weather is usually amazing and the summers are extreme but there's always the beach which is only an hour away from downtown…that isnt that far, ppl are just lazy. Also there are pools everywhere. The downtown area is not 2 populated, not like NYC or boston. It is relaxed and there are still fun clubs and restaurants. The homes are pricey, yes a downfall but unfortunately u r gonna find that in lots of places. Although a lot of ppl think orlando is a place for old ppl and tourists, orlando is a hip and fun place to be.

o and ps…if u own a home ull have to mow ur lawn A LOT lol…just 2 warn u.
