Theme Parks, Golf, Hotels, Micky...it can only be Orlando

By Christine Toner

Orlando, Florida may be famous for Disneyland but there's more to the Sunshine State than oversized Disney characters and excitable children! Here are the top reasons to visit.

With its numerous theme parks, you may not associate Orlando with relaxation but with its 168 spectacular golf courses, it certainly can be. The courses are all located within a 45-minute drive of downtown Orlando so golfers don't even have to leave the city. And since Orlando hosts the Bay Hill Invitational and the FUNAI Classic PGA tournaments theres plenty for golfing fans to watch.

Orlando has over 5000 restaurants so you're bound to find something to suit your taste buds. Whether it's fast food or a luxury dining experience you're after Orlando has plenty of choice. For a trendy restaurant with a great atmosphere, try Hue in the Thornton Park neighbourhood. Or for a bit of Irish charm try the Irish Pub for some traditional Irish fare.

Shoppers are in their element. Orlando has nine malls including the luxury The Mall at Millenia. Orlando is also home to plenty of outlet stores where you can buy designer gear at discount prices. Not to mention its vintage shops where you can pick up that one-of-a-kind item. Holidaymakers could spend the whole of their vacation in retail paradise!

If you're still in need of some relaxation, why not try out an Orlando spa? The city has a great selection of spas and resorts. The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Grande Lakes Orlando is the largest spa in Central Florida and has 40 treatment rooms and a fantastic selection of treatments.

You may not immediately associate Florida with culture but the city is actually home to world-renowned art exhibits. The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art is home to the worlds most comprehensive collection of works by Louis Comfort Tiffany. The Zora Neale Hurston National Museum of Fine Arts celebrates works by artists of African descent. The city also hosts the Orlando Ballet, Orlando Opera, Orlando Philharmonic and the 150-voice Bach Festival Society.
